NBTY to Acquire Solgar

In early June, supplement giant NBTY , Bohemia, NY, announced its plans to purchase Solgar, Leonia, NJ, for $115 million. Solgar has been in the supplement business since 1947, having been acquired in recent years by Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, Madison, NJ. According to NBTY , the recent acquisition will give it broader access to specialty stores due to Solgar’s presence in over 5000 retail outlets. In addition, it will give them a greater presence in international markets.
